Thanks from Great Lakes Naval Memorial & Museum

Hi Patti and everyone in South Haven,

I just wanted to thank everyone involved for the great visit to Muskegon by your ship and crew this past two weeks.

Overall the schools, teachers and students were very happy with the programming. While we all would have preferred 75 and sunny all the time we were able to adjust for the rain. In fact I think weather only stopped two sails and the crew was able to adjust and do education on board. So all in all a great partnership/program that we should improve on for the Fall and next year.

The teachers and students really liked the ROV program and going for a sail on your ship. If you would be interested I would welcome an opportunity to do similar programming in South Haven by adding our ROV class to your musuemsails. So please consider adding our traveling ROV program to your school programming.

On a personal note, I have worked with five tall ships and their crews over the last twenty years and found your present crew to be professional, friendly and a truly good group of folks to work with no matter what the weather. I am looking forward to future programming and activities with your fine team.

Help wanted in Muskegon

We can still use a few crew and docents for the rest of the Muskegon trip. We've got three daysails tomorrow (Saturday), two on Sunday, public dockside tours on Monday and Tuesday, two educational sails on Wednesday, and the transit back to South Haven on Thursday. There openings on all these days. Please contact the EVC (Katie) if you'd like to help out.

Welcome back, Katie!

My stint as interim Education & Volunteer Coordinator has come to an end. I have passed the baton to Katie Bleil, who will be our permanent EVC and who I am sure will do a great job. Please direct all questions concerning volunteer scheduling and requirements to Katie.

I will still be around doing various tasks for MMM, including updating this blog and setting up an online forum (coming soon!).
