Scheduling for the 28th of July to the 3rd of August.

Hi everyone,

Today was a good day, today I sailed on the 1:15 and the 3:15; with Captain Jim. The wind was good and we didn't have really bad waves. We had the Main single reefed and we put up the inner and the outer Jibs. It was a good day for talking to Passengers. On the 1:15 we had a lady who had previously sailed on a research ship. I don't recall the name of the boat, but it was really cool because she had got to research whales while sailing in Alaska.

And on the 3:15 there was a British family of about 8, who were really interested. The dad was a sailor himself, but had never been on a boat of FGW's size. He was very talkative, and friendly; and a big help on the peek halyard. The whole family had lots of fun. I love it when family's come out and just have a ball sailing with us.

Thanks for letting me express my happiness!

katie

New Gun Crew Training

Hello everyone!

I have been asked by Captain Jim to start training volunteers on how to work the gun.
If you are interested in being part of the gun crew please let me know. I would like to do it on Tuesday and Thursday nights and maybe Saturdays. If you join, you will first start learning how to fire the gun with out actually firing it and then loading and firing. We will do it enough so everyone can be a successful gunner.

You can get a hold of me by my cell phone or my email address.

-tribbster@juno.com

-Cell Phone: 269-352-0098

I need some new gunners that would be interested so we can have a great gun crew next year. However, it is a lot of fun, and I hope to get a lot of responses.

Thanks,

Ben Tribby

We are updating the Gunnery manual to reflect new safety and training standards. All members of the gun crew from 05, 06 and 07 are encouraged to participate in forming this new training program. To maintain consistent, high quality gunnery crew from one year to the next it is important for volunteers to be the foundation of the program.

Crew Scheduling for July 7th to July13th

Hello volunteers, this is Katie. Most of you already know me from sailing, but for those of you who don't I am one of the deck hands on the Friends Good Will. I have taken over scheduling for the sails. But don't worry! The system will not be changed again...at least not yet. You can still sign up to volunteer all the same ways. The only differences are: 1. if you are signing up by e-mail now you e-mail fgw@michiganmaritimemuseum.org. 2. If you come in and sign up in person the calendar sign up sheet is now in the fish bowl, or the office with all the Windows in the front of the building. If you have any questions you can ask me.

We are hoping that the fish bowl will become a comfortable place for you all to go and relax after your duties on the boat are done. My personal favorite aspect to the fish bowl is it has air conditioning, so at least on the hot days you will have a place to retreat to.

To reserve the sails and times you want to crew on the Friend's Good Will e-mail me at fgw@michiganmaritimemuseum.org. It's the beginning of the full time season, and we have plenty of openings for sails. Come and sail today!

Thanks!
Katie.
